Fed: Skilled vacancies rise 0.9 per cent in December=2

The department said skilled vacancies for 12 occupational groups rose and six occupational
groups fell in December.

The strongest increases were in building/engineering associate professionals, rising
8.2 per cent, followed by printing trade, up 7.7 per cent, and marketing and advertising
professionals, increasing 4.3 per cent.

The largest falls were in medical/science technical officers, down 7.5 per cent, science
professionals, off 5.1 per cent, and accountants and auditors, declining 2.7 per cent.

Skilled vacancies rose in four states in December, with the strongest rise in Tasmania,
jumping 6.4 per cent, followed by Queensland at 2.2 per cent and Western Australia at
1.0 per cent.

Falls were recorded in Northern territory, down 4.6 per cent, and NSW, off 1.4 per cent.

The department's ICT vacancy index was unchanged at 300.7 over the four weeks to mid-December,
27.8 per cent higher than a year earlier.
