WA: Soccer player injured in Perth game brawl

PERTH, Aug 13 AAP - A 15-year-old boy received serious bruising after being knocked
unconscious in a brawl which broke out during a soccer match in Perth.

The fight began about 11.45am (WST) today after a series of taunts between players
of opposing teams, Belmont and Balga, police spokesman Ian Hasleby said.

"It resulted in a teenage player being punched in the head and kicked while he was
on the ground," Mr Hasleby said.

The boy lapsed into unconsciousness as players from both teams pushed and shoved each
other until officials restrained the fighting team members.

The injured player was treated in hospital before being released with serious bruising.

Police and a soccer tribunal are investigating the incident.
