Vic: Police fear for man missing in snow
MELBOURNE, Aug 6 AAP - Police fear a 40-year-old Melbourne man missing in the snowin the Victorian Alps may not survive if he is not found today.
Engineer Sundar Bharadwaj (Sundar Bharadwaj), of North Balwyn, was last seen about2.30pm (AEST) on Sunday walking along a trail on Lake Mountain, near Marysville, about120km north-east of Melbourne.
An extensive search of the area has turned up a boot believed to belong to Mr Bharadwajbut has failed to find him.
Sergeant Andrew Herdman, of police search and rescue, yesterday said Mr Bharadwaj'schances of surviving in the open were decreasing.
"His chances of surviving the night are deteriorating quite rapidly. He may not survivetomorrow," he said.
He said Mr Bharadwaj's wife, who was maintaining a vigil at the mountain, was distraught.
The missing man was lightly dressed - reportedly wearing only a light parka and jeans.
The search, which has involved local police, the police air wing, search and rescueofficers from Melbourne and members of the Federation of Bushwalkers, will continue today.
